Switching to Linux

Hi there,
Bit of a late reply but coincidentally something I'm looking into as well. I'm in the process of testing a couple of Linux distros on my wife's Alienware laptop. That had severe sound issues under Windows 11 and despite Dell coming out to replace parts, remained unresolvable. Right now it has Nobara Linux running on it. What confused me at first was the many variants and versions of Steam's Proton support framework. I found most things worked best with Proton-GE (developed by GloriousEggroll hence the name!). You'll definitely find you will need to install a game, try one Proton version and test. If it doesn't work ok in the first minute (or refuses to load) switch to another version - usually the top 3 in the versions list in the Game Properties will do the trick. Apart from those two other helpful links from my notes: Lutris - an open gaming platform for Linux. It helps you install and manage your games in a unified interface WineHQ has a list of WoW clients and their status under Wine HTH! |
