Spell Costs

I downloaded WOTLK wow the other day, and when i made a character I noticed my lightning bolt costed 5 mana. Is this what it usually is? I've played on WOTLK servers a year or two ago and i thought the mana costs were still very high. Is this just my mind flipping out on me or is it different?

It changes with each rank learned, 5 mana is like 7% of your mana pool at a low level right, still quite a bit. But in reality you're thinking of vanila. All it took was a few casts to go oom.

I was under the impression that it changed with your character level rather than with the rank of the spell.

Spell costs for all classes that have spells based on mana are based exclusively on base mana cost percentages in WOTLK, with very few exceptions maybe.
